Govt raises subsidy on DAP fertiliser by 140% to Rs 1,200 per bag

 

The News Cover: A few days ago, the Narendra Modi government gave Rs 19,000 crore to farmers across the country in the Prime Minister's Kisan Samman Yojana sector. This time, the Center proposed to increase the subsidy by 140 percent on DAP fertiliser. Fertilizer prices are on the rise in the international market. On behalf of the Prime Minister's Secretariat, it has been said that the government wants to ensure that the farmers are not affected by the price hike. 

The Prime Minister has directed that the entire cost will be borne by the Center. Farmers will get fertilizer at the old price. As a result, the Center will have to spend an additional Rs 14,085 crore on subsidies. A high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Wednesday decided to increase fertilizer subsidies. Last year, the market price of Die Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) was Rs 1,700 per bag. The center subsidizes Rs 500 per bag. This time the Narendra Modi government has decided to increase the amount of subsidy to RS 1,200 per bag. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, phosphoric acid, ammonia, etc. are required for making fertilizers. 

Recently, their prices in the international market have increased by 70 to 80 percent. As a result, the price of fertilizer per bag has increased from RS 1,700 to RS 2,400. Excluding the current subsidy from the Center, farmers had to pay Rs 1,900 per bag of fertilizer. But the Prime Minister has made it clear that farmers can no longer be burdened. The increased cost will be borne by the government. As a result, farmers will be able to buy DAP fertilizer at Rs 1,200 per bag. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, This decision is historic. Never before has a central government given so much subsidy to fertiliser. 

Incidentally, hen Dr manmohan singh was PM, the Center was on the path of controlling urea prices. This is because the international community has repeatedly objected to the subsidy on fertilizer prices. Developed countries have repeatedly stated at WTO meetings that there is a competitive environment. But due to the domestic political and socio-economic situation, New Delhi never wanted to hear it. 

The Manmohan Singh government was only one step ahead. But the current situation is different. Coronavirus infection has already hit farmers hard. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, farmer welfare is a priority for this government. This step has been taken keeping that in mind.
