The News Cover: All records have been broken on the first day of free Covid-19 Vaccination. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all those who have been vaccinated today. Modi also thanked the frontline Coronavirus Frontliners fighters and health workers for this unprecedented success. He also said, "India has done a very good job."

After the day-long corona vaccination across the country, Modi (PM Narendra Modi) wrote in a Twitter message on Monday evening, 'It is a great pleasure to have a record number of vaccinations today. Vaccines are the most powerful weapon in the fight against coronavirus. Congratulations to those who have been vaccinated. Thanks to all the front line fighters for working hard to vaccinate so many civilians (Covid-19 Vaccine). India has done a great job.

Free immunization of 18-year-olds has started in different parts of the country from Monday. According to the Centre's (Corona Vaccine Dashboard-dashboard.cowin.gov.in) statistics, 60,97,417 people in the country have been given corona vaccine doses till 8:30 pm on Monday. In all, a total of 26,33,13,942 corona tick doses have been given so far. The first dose was given to 23,26,44,613 people. The second dose was given to 5,05,69,129 people. The last time India's one-day vaccination hit a record high was on April 2. 42,75,158 covid doses were given that day.

However, this program has not been started in West Bengal yet. In this case, the state government has not provided enough vaccines. Mamata Banerjee's government has said that free immunization of all 18 seniors will be started on the basis of how many vaccines will be available tomorrow.

West Bengal Health Officer Ajay Chakraborty said, “The state now has 1.4 million doses of corona vaccine. It is not possible to vaccinate above 18 years of age with that amount of vaccine. The government will be able to take steps in this regard only if the supply of ticks increases. In that case we will take some time. He added, "We will continue vaccination on the basis of need. If we start vaccinating all adults now, the vaccines will not be available as needed.

Where does India Stand with COVID-19 Vaccination?

The News Cover: India has the second highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world and has had the third highest death toll by the disease globally. Although the case to death ratio in India is lower than that of other countries, India has been reporting over 11 deaths per thousand cases, meaning that lakhs of lives have been lost to COVID-19 already. The World Health Organization has told us that we can protect ourselves through physical distancing, wearing masks and vaccination.

But a lot of fake news is going viral on social media, telling people that vaccination is dangerous. This is called vaccine hesitancy. The other side of this is that the demand for vaccines is growing because of the severity of the second wave of the pandemic. But we are also seeing a shortage of vaccines in India while other countries are making rapid strides with their vaccination coverage. So, we need to ask—what is the difference between our country's vaccine policy and the vaccine policies of other countries?

We will also discuss timelines for the vaccination of the Indian population. Before we get into the numbers, let us first understand why we need to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus. Although vaccines are unlikely to eradicate the virus, they will reduce the severity of the infection and increase herd immunity in the population. Research by Oxford University and England’s Office for National Statistics found that a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine reduced the risk of coronavirus infection by 65%. Another study by Public Health England found that a person's ability to infect others reduces by half when vaccinated.

So, vaccination can reduce the number of deaths, the burden on hospitals and also stop the virus from mutating further. Let us now focus on the vaccine policy followed in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Many of the world's richest countries placed orders for COVID-19 vaccines in advance. The US government launched Operation Warp Speed in May 2020. The purpose of the operation is to accelerate research on vaccines, manufacture, and distribution.

As part of this, the government reached agreements with various pharmaceutical companies for research funding and advance purchase contracts. As of August 2020, the US government concluded deals worth Rs 44,700 crore, which greatly reduced the market risk for companies. The government also invoked the Defense Production Act that was designed to protect the country. With all these measures, the US plans to have 60 crore doses of vaccine available to the public by July 2021.

The country’s population is around 33 crore. The US government aims to give at least one dose of the vaccine to 70% of people over 18 by 4 July, the American Independence Day. Similarly, in the UK, that has a population of about 7 crore, the government reached agreements with various companies for 46 crore doses of vaccines until April 2021. On the contrary, the government of India has not provided any financial support to the Serum Institute of India, or SII, or Bharat Biotech, the two producers of vaccine in our country. The SII used its own money of Rs 2,000 crore, with financial assistance of Rs 2,200 crore from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to increase its manufacturing capacity. Bharat Biotech also invested its own money.

However, with the intensification of the second wave in India, on 19 April 2021, the government of India paid a combined Rs 4,500 crore in advance to all vaccine companies. While some argue that India cannot be compared to rich countries like the US and the UK, critics argue that our government has sufficient financial resources to get everyone vaccinated, with the central government allocating Rs 35,000 crore just for vaccines in the 2021-22 budget, and thousands of crores in the PMCARES fund. Also, India has experience of successful large-scale vaccination in the past, as seen in the polio campaign. In addition to this, the pharma sector in our country is highly developed.

The SII is the largest vaccine manufacturing company in the world. So, what does India’s vaccine policy in the days ahead look like? So far, the SII’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin have been the main vaccines available to Indians. According to the current vaccine policy, these companies must sell 50% of the vaccine produced to the central government, and the remaining 50% must be sold to state governments and private hospitals at a higher price. The central government stated that although the prices of these vaccines vary from buyer to buyer, this will make the vaccine available to the public faster.

However, critics say that the centre should buy 100% of the vaccine and distribute it to the states, all at subsidised rates. Vaccination for all people in various phases has already begun. Healthcare and frontline workers were eligible for vaccination in the first phase, which began on 16 January 2021, followed by people over 60 and those between 45 and 60 who had comorbidities from 1 March, followed by the opening up of vaccination to everyone above 45 from 1 April, and, finally, with everyone aged 18 and above being eligible for vaccination from 1 May.

Let us now look at how many of the 89 crore people who are eligible for vaccination as of 24 May have been vaccinated and how many more doses are needed. As of 24 May, 97% of healthcare workers have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while about 75% of frontline workers have received a single dose. However, healthcare and frontline workers only amount to 3 crore of the population. Of the remaining 86 crore people, vaccination is currently very slow.

Less than 5% of the total population eligible for vaccination received a complete vaccination of two doses, while only 17% received the first dose. This means that 83% of those eligible are yet to receive the first dose. Based on this, we can see in this graph how many doses of vaccine will be required for people in each category so far. While the lowest requirement is for healthcare workers, who need 36 lakh doses, the maximum requirement is 117 crore doses, for those between 18 and 45.

A total of 158 crore 41 lakh doses are required for all categories combined. So, how much supply is required to meet this demand? The SII and Bharat Biotech have agreed to deliver all orders placed by the government of India by the end of July. Until now, the central government has ordered over 35 crore doses of Covaxin and Covishield in three separate orders. The first two orders have already been delivered. The third order of 16 crore doses is yet to be delivered. Of these 35 crore doses, a total of 20.39 crore doses of vaccines have already been used, including exports and vaccines administered to Indian citizens.

Of the remaining 14.7 crore doses, some are already with the central government, and the remaining will be available by the end of July 2021. As part of the third-phase vaccine policy, a number of doses equivalent to what the centre has received should be given to state governments and private hospitals. So, vaccine companies will have to supply another 16 crore doses to state governments and private hospitals, in line with the 16 crore doses ordered by the central government.

By the end of July 2021, the central government, state governments and private hospitals will have a combined supply of over 30 crore doses of vaccine, in addition to what has already been administered. However, this supply is not enough to meet the current demand of over 160 crore. Even if it is only for priority groups like healthcare workers, frontline workers and those above 45, the current supply will be less.

Experts predict that it will take a year for all categories of eligible people to have received two doses of vaccine if vaccines from outside sources are not significantly available in the next few months. The Russian vaccine, Sputnik-V, was recently approved for usage in India. 1.5 lakh doses of Sputnik-V arrived at Hyderabad airport on 1 May. But it is not yet clear how many Sputnik-V doses will be available over the next three months. Zydus Cadila is also rumoured to be applying for emergency approval.

Other vaccines are also undergoing clinical trials and are likely to be approved soon. The SII, Bharat Biotech and Sputnik V also have plans to increase production capacity significantly by July 2021, according to an affidavit submitted by the central government to the Supreme Court. However, the situation at present remains that although everyone who is older than 18 is technically eligible for vaccination, there is simply not enough supply to vaccinate them all. Our intent behind making this video is to dispel the confusion regarding vaccination and give a clear picture of where India stands right now regarding the numbers related to supply and demand of COVID- 19 vaccines.

WhatsApp Twitter Instagram Facebook Banned in India from Today?

The News Cover: There is a chance that by the time you wake up in the morning and watch my video in India, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter may have gone off your mobile screens. Yes, Social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram may face a ban in India if they fail to comply with the new intermediary guidelines for social media platforms in India.

The three-month deadline given by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology to accept these guidelines ends today, that is on 25th May but none of these internet giants have so far accepted the new regulations. The rules will be effective from tomorrow despite these companies seeking a total six-month delay in their implementation. But what is this entire issue?

Let me explain as simply as I can Look, facebook, twitter, instagram and whatsapp are platforms - they merely carry the content posted by us. But the new rules announced in February require these large social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to follow additional due diligence, including appointment of a chief compliance officer, a nodal contact person and a resident grievance officer. Because right now, there is no one in their offices that the Indian govt can hold accountable if any objectionable content is posted on these platforms.

The Indian Govt officials say that appointment of a grievance officer would be a key requirement from the day-one of these rules coming into effect. This is because of the growing importance of public interface for complaints, and need for an acknowledgement system for such requests.

The Indian government had set 50 lakh registered users as the threshold for defining them as a 'significant social media intermediary', meaning that all these big players like Twitter, Facebook and Google would have to comply with the new rules because they all have a lot more than 50 lakh users. They all had 3 months to comply, which got over tonite at 12. And it's not that simple. These big social media companies will also have to publish a monthly compliance report disclosing details of complaints received by them and the action that they have taken.

They also have to give the details of contents they remove proactively to the Indian govt. They also need to have a physical contact address in India, which has to be published on their website or app, or both. As per the government, India has 53 crore WhatsApp users, 44.8 crore YouTube users, 41 crore Facebook subscribers, 21 crore Instagram users, and 1.75 crore account holders on Twitter.

Koo, India's asnwer to Twitter, is the only platform that has so far accepted the governmemt's new rules. Koo has close to 60 lakh users, making it a major social media intermediary under the new guidelines. Interestingy, Facebook is the only foreign platform that has indicated that it'll comply with the IT rules, but say they want to continue to discuss a few of the issues, which need more engagement with the Indian government.

Ironically, Twitter was exploding this evening with hashtag Twitter Ban, trending on the no.1 spot. Many memes have already started becoming viral on the internet hillariously making light of the situation, which in fact is pretty serious, if it actually happens. After all, we all saw apps like TikTok, going away in a flash.

Cyber Experts, however, say that it's very unlikely that social media giants like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp will stop being available in India from tomorrow. Simply because the new rules won't stop them from functioning...they will just make them extremely vulnerable and liable to be prosecuted, as their protection will be taken away by the Indian government.

What are your thoughts on this baffling peice of news? Can you imagine life without Twitter, Instagram, facebook and most importantly WhatsApp? Many would say it's their worst nightmare come true. Is it the same for you too? Let me know what you feel in commments.

Black and White Fungus: The Next Deadly Infections?

Monday, May 24, 2021

The News Cover: The Social media users who were then posting requests for hospital beds and oxygen support are now requesting for Anti-fungal drugs. The Black fungus which is now becoming more deadly has a death rate of 50 percent even more than the COVID-19 which has a death rate of 3.4 percent and the recent white fungus cases are even more lethal. So what are these fungal infections? Many people who recovered from COVID- 19 or who are on medication of COVID- 19 are found to be affected by the black fungus also known as the Mucormycosis.

The most important fact to note here is it is not contagious like the Covid19 is. This is basically a fungal infection which spreads by molds which is already present in our air, soil, decaying vegetables and fruits. These molds enter our body through our nose and then may spread to our brain and eyes.

Once it reaches your eyes there is a high possibility of going blind. So how is this caused and who are the ones at risk? COVID-19 patients with a history of diabetes are one of the main targets of this fungus. In simple words immunity suppress people which means the ones who are under medication of cancer, hiv or diabetes are easily targeted.

During COVID-19 treatment steroids are given to patients to strengthen their lung functionality. This changes the blood sugar levels in both diabetic as well as non-diabetic patients . Once you recover from COVID-19 you will still be immunosuppressed which makes it very easy for the fungal infections to infect.

What i mean by immunosuppressed is your basic ability to fight the environmental pathogens is very less And in case it's left untreated it may result in blindness, removal of nose and jaw bones and even death. In some cases to save the patients lives their eyes had to be removed through surgery which totally defines the title the Black fungus.

Now coming to the new cases of white fungus this is considered to be even more deadly than the black one as it directly attacks our lungs, brain, nails and most of the vital organs. The strange thing about white fungus is its symptoms are exactly similar to that of COVID- 19. The patients diagnosed with this fungal infection were in fact tested COVID negative even though they had the symptoms similar to that.

One more thing to note here is this fungal infection can only be diagnosed by undergoing X-ray scans or CT scans. Experts say that women and children are more easily targeted to this white fungus as the main reason is leucchorea. This is commonly experienced in reproductive stage of a woman and in the form of diaper candidiasis in kids. Even the COVID positive patients on oxygen support have been tested for white fungus.

So basically immunosuppressed patients are vulnerable to both white and the black fungus. The biggest question is how do we save ourselves from this? Prevention is better than cure! This fits perfectly to the situation the best way to save ourselves from this fungal infection is to identify the symptoms early.

Let's have a look at major symptoms of black fungus. Symptoms may include redness and swelling of eyes just like the conjunctivitis disease, swelling of cheeks, blackish discharge from the nose, blurred or double vision and rarely headaches and toothaches as well. And in the case of white fungus as mentioned earlier respiratory problems very similar to Covid19 can be experienced, For example shortness or difficulty in breathing chest pain etc. So the safest way to avoid further danger is to identify these signs very early.

Now coming to few more things which can be done to avoid these fungal infections at a very early stage. First and foremost the steroids must be used in an effective manner timings and doses must be properly maintained. The next main reason is the use of unhygienic water in humidifiers and oxygen cylinders, instead sterile clean water must be used. And coming to the third point blood-glucose levels must be monitored regularly in covid patients who are under medication.

As we all know these cases are increasing at a rapid pace. The need of antifungal injections will soon suffer the same fate of the oxygen availability in india. Shortage of these injections have now led to black marketing as well Amphotericin- B injections used to treat infected patients are now being sold at a higher price. So let's keep ourselves safe and hygienic.

Govt raises subsidy on DAP fertiliser by 140% to Rs 1,200 per bag

The News Cover: A few days ago, the Narendra Modi government gave Rs 19,000 crore to farmers across the country in the Prime Minister's Kisan Samman Yojana sector. This time, the Center proposed to increase the subsidy by 140 percent on DAP fertiliser. Fertilizer prices are on the rise in the international market. On behalf of the Prime Minister's Secretariat, it has been said that the government wants to ensure that the farmers are not affected by the price hike.

The Prime Minister has directed that the entire cost will be borne by the Center. Farmers will get fertilizer at the old price. As a result, the Center will have to spend an additional Rs 14,085 crore on subsidies. A high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Wednesday decided to increase fertilizer subsidies. Last year, the market price of Die Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) was Rs 1,700 per bag. The center subsidizes Rs 500 per bag. This time the Narendra Modi government has decided to increase the amount of subsidy to RS 1,200 per bag. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, phosphoric acid, ammonia, etc. are required for making fertilizers.

Recently, their prices in the international market have increased by 70 to 80 percent. As a result, the price of fertilizer per bag has increased from RS 1,700 to RS 2,400. Excluding the current subsidy from the Center, farmers had to pay Rs 1,900 per bag of fertilizer. But the Prime Minister has made it clear that farmers can no longer be burdened. The increased cost will be borne by the government. As a result, farmers will be able to buy DAP fertilizer at Rs 1,200 per bag. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, This decision is historic. Never before has a central government given so much subsidy to fertiliser.

Incidentally, hen Dr manmohan singh was PM, the Center was on the path of controlling urea prices. This is because the international community has repeatedly objected to the subsidy on fertilizer prices. Developed countries have repeatedly stated at WTO meetings that there is a competitive environment. But due to the domestic political and socio-economic situation, New Delhi never wanted to hear it.

The Manmohan Singh government was only one step ahead. But the current situation is different. Coronavirus infection has already hit farmers hard. According to the Prime Minister's Secretariat, farmer welfare is a priority for this government. This step has been taken keeping that in mind.

India faces increasing difficulty disposing of COVID dead

Monday, May 17, 2021

The News Cover:  The spread of the coronavirus appears to be slowing in India. Cases have fallen for the third day in a row - raising hopes that the worst could soon be over. But deaths from COVID-19 are still RISING. More than 4,000 people have again died within a day. Bodies strewn along the river bank.

Victims of India's coronavirus catastrophe. "The Ganges meanders through our village and the water flows very slowly here. So the bloated corpses get caught on the river bank. It's turned the whole area into a pile of bodies." As desperation takes hold in the scramble for covid-19 vaccines and treatment, India's second wave is also affecting the disposal of the dead. State officials believe some families are unable to afford the costs of cremation, as demand skyrockets.

According to official numbers, India has suffered nearly 4000 deaths per day for over a week. But the true death toll may be even higher. "Wherever they can, people are taking advantage of other peoples' misery. I saw it at a cremation site where they were charging exorbitant fees. Relatives are helpless as they have no other choice.

They have to pay whatever is demanded, no matter how unreasonable." There are small signs of improvement. The rapid spread of the virus seems to be slowing - sparking hope that social distancing measures may be starting to have an effect. More vaccines are also on their way. A second batch of Russia's Sputnik Vee landed on Sunday. But getting enough vaccine to protect India's 1.3 billion population will take time. For now, Indians are left picking up the pieces of the devastation left behind.

The News Cover: Corona infection has taken a terrible shape across the country. As the number of victims in Corona is increasing day by day, so is the number of deaths. Rows of dead bodies are floating in the rivers of different states. Which is showing the extreme horror with a finger in the eye. In such a dire situation, the Kerala government has stepped up its efforts to take control of the situation. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Bijayan has fixed the prices of a number of medical equipment in accordance with the Essential Commodities Control Act to prevent any black market of medical equipment in Kerala during this time of crisis in Corona.

He said on the official Twitter handle of the Kerala government that in this time of crisis in Corona, Kerala traders will get PPE at a maximum of ₹ 263, N-95 mask at ₹ 22, triple-layer mask at ₹ 3.90, face shield at ₹ 21, disposable apron at ₹ 12, surgical gowns at Rs. The price of a pair of sterile gloves is ₹ 15, NRB mask is ₹ 80, an oxygen mask is ₹ 54, flow-meter with humidifier is priced at a maximum of ₹ 1520, and pulse oximeter is priced at a maximum of ₹ 1500. The decision of the Kerala government is to ensure that the common man gets proper treatment and is not blackmailed in this extreme situation of Corona.

Can Animals have covid 19? 8 Asiatic lions tested positive for covid 19

The News Cover: Can Animals have covid 19? 8 Asiatic lions tested positive for covid 19 in the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, India. According to a report published by the PIB on the 4th of May The lions were reportedly tested positive after showing signs of breathing problems and loss of appetite.

The disease was most likely (transmitted) from either a zoo staff or people in close contact with the lions. The report states that the infection was not caused by any variant of concern and that the lions are now being isolated and are receiving due treatment. after the incident But this is definitely not the first case of covid in animals.

In April last year, a Tiger from a US Zoo was the first animal to ever get tested positive for covid. Post that, animals like : minks, cats, dogs, snow leopards, cougars, and even gorillas tested positive for covid. While there is still a lot more research that needs to be done to find out about covid in animals, the chances of it getting life-threatening are extremely rare.

Most pets that get covid have mild symptoms and can be taken care of from home. The CDC recommends the same precautions for animals as for humans. ;) While the exact origin of covid-19 is still unknown, the CDC reports that it originally did come from an animal - most likely a bat. However, the chances of the disease transmission from your pet animal to yourself (or other humans) are extremely low MASK UP!

Corona: Corona epidemic breaks all sales records, 600 percent increase in sales

The News Cover: The drug controller allowed emergency use of the drug last year during the escalation of corona infections. In September last year, the drug was sold for 60 crore rupees across the country. But in April this year, the drug broke all sales records. Sales of that drug called Fabiflu have increased by 600 percent. Many people have relied on this drug during this difficult time of the Corona epidemic. Vaccine famine in the country. If he is infected with coronavirus, the doctors have not yet found the prescribed method of treatment. As a result, the doctors are treating the patient on the basis of the symptoms and the physical condition of the victim. In such a situation, Fabiflu has been widely used across the country.

At this time of the Corona epidemic, people are more inclined towards antiviral drugs. As a result, the use of all antiviral drugs has increased more or less. However, the use of fabiflu has increased at a massive rate. Glenmark's drug, the multivitamin drug Ginkobit, also lags far behind in terms of sales. According to the company, sales of Fabiflu have increased by almost 600 percent. Fabiflu is now the best-selling drug in the Indian pharma market. Until October last year, Ginkobit was the best-selling drug in the Indian market.

Sales of drugs such as Monosafe, Dolo, and Betadine have also increased significantly during this time. However, none of them reached the record of selling Fabiflu. The generic version of the Japanese anti-influenza drug Fabipirabir is Fabiflu. Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals. The second wave of corona has hit the country. In such a situation, many are relying on this drug. According to pharma research firm AIOCD, Fabiflu has turned over a business worth 762 crore in the last one year. It is followed by the anti-diabetic drug Glycomet-GP. This drug has raised a business of 564 crore. Surprisingly, Fabiflu's total sales halved in April alone.

Covid 19 Vaccine: Is Aadhaar Card Compulsory for Corona Vaccination?

The News Cover: Telecom workers continue to provide uninterrupted services. Just as doctors, nurses, and various frontline workers are being vaccinated on an emergency basis, so should telecom workers. To this end, a letter has been written from the telecom department to the Union Ministry of Health.

The Department of Telecom (DOT) said in a letter dated March 16 that it supported the request of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) in this regard. Telecommunications Secretary Anshu Prakash said there was no doubt that the Telecom Field Force was working tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted data and voice services across the country and that the risk of CVVID-19 was high in this endeavor.

Therefore, telecom workers should be labeled as 'telecom warriors', and this request should be considered favorably, the telecom ministry said. However, the central government and the health ministry are working together to provide the vaccine to people across the country. But in a country with a large and huge population like India, it is a huge challenge. Telecom workers have to work in the field, so the risk is higher. However, the central government and the health ministry could not immediately confirm this.

Kangana Ranaut suspended from Twitter before Kangana's account. Now her post has been removed from Instagram (Kangana corona post deleted from Instagram). And this post was about Corona. Kangana shared that information in front of everyone as she was infected with corona. There he talked about her physical problems and said that this coronavirus is just a common flu. Whom she will destroy. The controversy began with Corona being compared to the common flu.
Although controversy and Kangana are synonymous forever. However, her comments spread like wildfire on Instagram, creating a backlash. Because as the number of corona cases in the country is increasing day by day and thousands of people are being killed by corona, Kangana has tried to alleviate this problem by calling corona a common flu. That created anger among the common people. She then quickly deleted her post on Instagram.

But even then she (Kangana Ranaut) did not stay. After deleting her post on Instagram, he wrote in her Instagram story, "Instagram has deleted my post. Some people have been hurt because I said I will destroy Corona! The post has been deleted. It's been 2 days on Instagram, but I don't think I will be able to survive for more than a week. "
In that post, Kangana wrote, "I have quarantined myself. I have no idea how this virus is partying all over my body! I also felt very weak and tired. My eyes were also lightly irritated. Back to Himachal." There was talk. So yesterday I tested the corona. Today the report is positive. But this coronavirus is just a common flu. I will destroy it. "

She has previously been suspended from Twitter. His one-on-one tweets came after he was accused of making hateful posts and spreading violence among the common people. She spoke on behalf of the BJP and made controversial remarks on social media about any anti-BJP party or incident. Such allegations were repeatedly raised against Kangana. She also commented on the BJP's defeat in Bengal and the Trinamool's victory. She even attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Twitter. As a popular actress, she has an impact on the public. So such provocative posts can create problems. Since then, her Twitter account has been suspended.

According to experts, the infection is caused by a fungus called mucomycetes. This fungus is present in the environment. It can spread from there. However, its effects on Covid victims are serious. This fungus can enter the human body with inhaled dust. But black fungus is not contagious. That is, it is not transmitted from one person to another. This fungus is also able to affect the respiratory system and the brain.

Who has the highest risk of this fungal infection? People who are being given steroids for corona treatment are more likely to get this infection. Doctors are also advising those who have uncontrolled diabetes to be aware of it. People who have been in the ICU for a long time or have co-morbidity are more likely to get this infection.

Doctors are also telling what to do and what not to do if you are infected with this fungus. Let's see what they are-

-Doctors are talking about controlling blood sugar levels.

-A person who has recovered from covid should see diabetes at regular intervals.

-Giving steroids to the patient in the right amount and other things.

India Makes 7,000 Tons Of Oxygen A Day, So Why Is There A Shortage?

The News Cover:  All of these people are lining up for oxygen in India. But the country isn't actually running out. It produces nearly 7,000 tons a day, enough for its 1.3 billion people. So we decoded what's really behind the shortage. Liquid oxygen has to be stored at very low temperatures.

Cryogenic tankers keep it at the right levels, but India doesn't have enough, and it's relying on getting supplies from other countries, like Singapore. Most oxygen production in India is for industrial use. People are even lining up outside factories in rural areas, while demand is climbing in cities like Mumbai in the west and New Delhi in the north. But for safety reasons, oxygen has to be transported by road or trains and not by air, which is why cities are still waiting. And people are outraged.

Many Indians say the government has failed for years to invest enough money in the infrastructure needed to avoid this. Patients with severe COVID end up with hypoxemia when oxygen levels in the blood are too low. One in four hospitalized COVID patients need oxygen. Even after being admitted to hospitals, many people are still dying because of low supply. There are even reports of hospitals asking people to bring in their own cylinders. There's also a growing black market for them. One man said he paid 45,000 rupees for one, or about $600. That's about nine times its usual price.

Nirmala responded to Mamata's corona vaccine exemption request in 18 tweets

The News Cover: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to Mamata Banerjee's letter seeking tax exemption on covid equipment, vaccines and medicines within hours. Nirmala Sitharaman responded in detail to Mamata Banerjee's letter on Twitter. The essence of Nirmala's argument in 16 tweets is that the Center has lifted import duty and health tax on many things in a cowardly situation. Even GST has been waived. He explained that a 5 per cent tax exemption on vaccines and a 12 per cent tax exemption on medicines was necessary to ensure that prices of these items were not increased.

Nirmala's argument is that import duty has been lifted on goods that will be provided free of cost. Whether it is Oxygen or RemedicV, they can be brought for free and distributed free of cost. No party has to pay any tax for this. But it is not possible to raise taxes on vaccines and equipment.

At the same time, Nirmala has shown that the GST that can be obtained from this tool or ticker is more profitable for the state than the center. Because the state will get 80 rupees 50 paise for 100 rupees. The rest will go to the central treasury. Nirmala's clear argument is that without this tax, ordinary people will have to pay more.

In the letter, Mamata wrote, "We are trying our best not to handle the situation. Efforts are being made to ensure that the people of the state get oxygen and all the necessary medicines when they need it. In this situation, various voluntary organizations have also come forward to deliver oxygen to the people on time. But there is a huge gap between the demand and supply of oxygen and medicine in the state. The state has nothing to do, so the request to the center is to give tax exemption on all the medical equipment required for corona. At the same time, there should be a limit on the supply of life-saving medicines and equipment. We will continue to deal with Corona.

Why is politics in Bengal so violent?

The News Cover: After independence, Indian National Congress ruled in West Bengal. But its dominance faltered in the 1960s. Dipankar Basu suggests that Bengal’s politics changed immensely in the 1960s. During this time period, Bengal witnessed peasant movements, led by peasants who lacked land, against the landlords. The motivation behind this movement was the domination of the landlords in the villages of Bengal even though India had gained independence.

According to the Revenue Ministry of Bengal, in 1953, the landlords owned 93% of the 10 million acres of land. On March 25, 1967, a new movement started, when a sharecropper was brutally beaten by the landlord. His belongings were taken away when he tried tilling the land. Exasperated by the landlord’s misconduct, the peasants started a rebellion (movement). What was the name of the village where the rebellion originated? Naxalbari The ‘Naxal’ movement takes its name from this place.

The Naxal movement was led by Charu Mazumdar, who believed that India needed a revolution. The rebellion gave rise to a class-based political movement in Bengal. For example, Congress became the party for upper-caste landlords and peasants. Similarly, CPI(M) became a party for middle-caste peasants and CPI(ML) for SC/ST peasants who lacked land. In 1972, even after Charu Mazmudar’s death (the founder of the movement), the movement continued to influence Bengal’s politics. Research has shown that during 1967-71, guns and bombs became a crucial part of state politics; not only in rural areas but in the towns as well.

Political killings became commonplace in Calcutta. Several areas of Calcutta witnessed the dominance of the Naxal movement. For example, Shyambazar, Dumdum, College Street, Jadavpur, and Tollugunj. Naxal students vandalized statues, halted examinations, and killed police and government officials. Police responded by killing many Naxal activists and supporters in fake encounters. This violence wasn’t limited to the Naxals. The political violence began between Congress and CPI(M) too.

The situation had worsened to an extent where every political party had hired their own hoodlums. During the 1971 Lok Sabha elections, not only the voters were scared to cast a vote but the booth officials too were scared to do their job. Hence, the government offered a cash bonus, free transportation and also promised to pay the medical expenses to encourage them to show up to work. Congress resorted to violence during the 1972 state elections. The party used muscle power to win the elections. Despite the use of muscle power, the Left-movement gained popularity in Bengal.

Thus the Left parties won the 1977 state elections and formed a government. After securing leadership, the left government relied on two things to increase its dominance – Land reforms and Panchayati Raj institutions. In the 1980s, the left government launched Operation Barga to bring land reforms. For this, the government confiscated land from the landlords and redistributed it to peasants who owned little or no land at all. During the same time period, Bengal’s Panchayati Raj institutions had been developing too. As these institutions started receiving more funds from the central government, the significance of their elections increased too.

CPM saw the panchayats as means to strengthen the support from SC, ST, and other minorities. Violence might have reduced due to the dominance of the Left government in the panchayats, but it changed Bengal’s politics dramatically. To cement its domination, the Left government deployed the same method that Congress had used for years – to destroy the democracy and give little or no space to the opposition. First, CPI(M) shut off several newspapers that criticized it.

Secondly, in the process of winning the Panchayat elections, CPI(M) created a new political system, which is referred to by the political scientists as ‘Party-Society’. This is the system where the difference between society and politics diminishes and your identity depends on the political party you support. Researcher Partha Chatterjee told that the most important institution in West Bengal isn’t family, kinship, caste, or religion, but the political party that you support. How did the party-society system develop?

Operation Barga could be the main influence for it. Before the operation, the disputes in villages were settled by the landlords. But the seizing of landlords’ power created a gap. The gap was filled by Left party workers. Party workers were not only responsible for the governance of the village but they also solved social, personal, and familial issues. Hence, the politics and society in Bengal merged into one. Apart from this, the Left parties were aware that solving the disputes in villages won’t secure them electoral votes.

They needed to do something else. Hence, they launched several schemes which were actually funded by the government. But they were advertised as if the party initiated them. Initially, each and every villager benefited from these schemes. But over time, the funds and government’s efficiency reduced. This created discrimination. Who should benefit from the schemes and who shouldn’t? Those who benefited from the schemes supported the Left while those who didn’t start opposing them. This was the condition of the villages in Bengal for around 30 years.

Due to this, the areas are divided into party lines. Party didn’t just want support in rural Bengal for elections. Its loyalty became crucial for survival too. Many houses were burnt and people were evicted because they supported different political parties. Marichjhapi refugee massacre is one such example. Where Dalit refugees or those belonging to lower-caste, migrated from East-Pakistan to Bengal, were either murdered by the Left government or died due to starvation.

Because the refugees refused to relocate to the place of the government’s wish. They refused to become part of the United Central Refugee Council, an organization of CPI(M). They didn’t want to become part of a certain political party. Bengal’s politics witnessed a sharp turn when TMC was formed. Due to this, political violence spread in rural areas like wildfire. This was the first time when someone was challenging the Left government’s dominance.

The left government was up against a coalition – between TMC and BJP. Partha Chatterjee wrote that even relatives were burning each other’s houses if one side supported the Left government and the other supported the TMC-BJP alliance. The political violence flipped completely in 2006 and 2007. The Left parties had maintained their dominance by addressing the issues of the poor. Now TMC played this role against Left parties. This was witnessed during Singur and Nandigram movements. The protest sparked violence and 14 were killed. This protest soared Mamta Banerjee’s popularity in Bengal. Due to this, Trinamool Congress (TMC) won the 2011 assembly elections. But this didn’t stop political violence.

Violence in Bengal is not ordinary as in other regions of India, violence is associated with caste or religion. But that’s not the case with Bengal. Researches have shown that caste, religion, and other social divisions received little attention. Mostly, the social divisions lay on the party lines. It could be because of the ‘party-society’ political system created by the Left government. This trend has been changing with the rise of the BJP. You can see in this graph that there has been an upsurge in the number of communal riots in Bengal in 10 years. Researcher Suman Nath and Subhoprotim Roy Chowdhury wrote how religious polarization increased in Bengal since 2013.

On the other hand, TMC is being accused of playing ‘politics of appeasement’ because many of its schemes are targeting Muslim religious leaders. Many villagers assert that TMC has brought social development but they also suggest that the development favors Muslims. For a Scroll news report, a villager stated that Mamta Didi has given them a lot but it’s lost in corruption among the party men.

He added that Muslim villages are receiving more funds to build mosques. In politics, it doesn’t matter if it’s true or not? What matters the most is the perception of any political party. BJP is designing its political campaign based on this perception. Due to religious polarisation, we witnessed instances of political violence during the 2019 and 2021 elections.

When you consider all these you might say that the story behind the violence hasn’t changed much. Political violence starts when the domination of a certain political party falters. The political party then uses violence to maintain its dominance. That’s why for the citizens of Bengal, politics and violence have been the two sides of the coin for years. This coin remains the same. Only the political actors change.
