the bcci, with no option but to suspend the tournament. the board was reported, mulling the possibility of moving the entire tournament to a single venue in Mumbai from next week. but that will no longer happen the bcci has confirmed. that the tournament has been indefinitely postponed. in the interest of safety and that it will now be assisting foreign players and being able to return, to their countries.

IPL: Rohit Sharma & MS Dhoni Fined ₹12 Lakh

 

The News Cover: 'Over-Rate' where a set of overs must be completed within a specified time and is applicable in Test, ODI, T20 & IPL matches. In T20Is and IPL bowling sides are expected to bowl the 20 overs in 1 hour 25 minutes. Over-rate is calculated at the end of the Match by the Umpires and if they find the over rate was slow, they report the matter to the Match Referee. 

The Match Referee then confirms that the Minimum Over Rate has not been achieved and issues a fine to the Captain of that team. As per the rules of IPL, on the first instance during a season, the captain is fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate. On the second instance in a season, if the over-rate is slow, the fine is doubled i.e. Rs 24 lakh for the captain and the other 10 team members are fined 25% of the match fee or Rs 6 lakh. For the third offence in the season, a fine of Rs 30 lakh is imposed on the captain and he is also given a one-match ban, while rest of the 10 members are charged with a fine of 50% of match fee or Rs 12 lakh. 

On 20th April, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Mumbai Indians were playing against Delhi Capitals. Rohit Sharma's team created a slow over rate. Since Sharma was the captain, he was fined Rs. 12 Lakh. Similarly, on 10th April 2021, Chennai Super Kings played against Delhi Capitals. Due to CSK's slow over rate, Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh. 

Ben Stokes Breaks Finger During IPL Match
